Thymelist vs Paprika

Thymelist is a phone app built around saving from social video and shopping from one list. If you’re looking for a Paprika alternative, here’s where each one is the better pick.

Websites vs social video
Paprika was built for recipe websites, and its clipper is still excellent: open a page in its built-in browser and save it. Thymelist saves from websites too, but it was built for the recipes people find on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook.
Paprika 4, in open beta since September 2026, adds social media import as a Premium feature. Paprika says it reads the recipe from the post’s text, including its caption or description. Thymelist reads the caption too, and when that falls short, it listens to the video and writes the recipe down. If it had to fill in the method itself, it labels it.

Paying once vs a free plan
Paprika 3 is a one-time purchase on each platform: €5.99 on iPhone in the euro App Store, and US$29.99 each for Mac and Windows. Sync between them costs nothing extra. The free Android version and the Windows trial have no time limit, but they hold 50 recipes and don’t sync.
Paprika 4 changes that for new features. After the beta, Paprika says, premium features will need a subscription, at a price it hasn’t announced yet.
Thymelist has a free plan with no recipe cap and 10 AI imports a month. Pro is €4.99 a month or €39.99 a year and removes the AI limits.
Desktop, offline and pantry
If you want your recipes on your computer and on your own device, Paprika is the better tool. It stores everything locally, works offline, and runs on Mac and Windows. It also keeps a pantry with purchase and expiry dates.
Thymelist is online-first and lives on your phone. It keeps your current shopping list readable offline, and it has no pantry.
Shopping lists and languages
Both build a shopping list from your recipes and combine the same ingredient. Paprika sorts it by aisle. Thymelist sorts it into 13 store sections, translates ingredients from recipes in other languages, and lets you send the list as a link that whoever shops can tick off in a browser.
Paprika’s interface comes in 16 languages, Czech among them, but not Slovak. Thymelist is in English, Slovak and Czech, and flags the 14 major allergens named in EU food law on each recipe, as a guide rather than a guarantee.
